Johnny (Glenn Ford), a professional gambler becomes the right hand of Balin (George Macready), the owner of an illegal casino in Buenos Aires. This post becomes stressful, when Balin marries Gilda (Rita Hayworth), the ex-friend of Johnny. She is having affairs with others, and Johnny has to do a lot that Balin doesn't get informed about. Due to some other illegal things Balin does, he has to leave Argentina in a way that he seems to be dead for everybody. After this Johnny marries Gilda, but not because he loves her, but because he wants to punish her of not being faithful to Balin. But things are not going in the way Johnny has planed...
