Eating grass is a normal behavior for dogs.
Dogs are not just meat eaters, they eat grains and vegetables, and somehow they seem to know this naturally. Some believe that dogs eat grass because it makes them vomit. If they feel nauseous or have eaten some food that doesn't agree with them, eating grass will help them clear their stomachs. Grasses in your pet's diet will also add much needed nutrition and enzymes for good digestion and a healthy, happier pet.
So why the concern if your dog is eating grass?
The number one reason is that pesticides that are sprayed on lawns these days.
Pesticides contain poisons and carcinogens which are extremely harmful to human or animal health. If you catch your dog eating grass that has been sprayed with pesticides it will surely get very ill from the experience.
By growing your own pet grass you will be avoiding any of the pesticides or growth hormones commonly used to promote lawn and plant growth. Sow these seeds in a special pot for your pet out of reach until you want to give him/her a treat. Set potted grass down for a few minutes, or break a few blades from your plant and give it as you would a dog bone........ your pet will love it and it will be good for them. Grass will continue to grow for some time.
Remember..... too much grass will make your pet vomit much like too much food. Quite often dogs will keep eating without your moderation.
