The Violet Family are dainty herbs with tiny flowers. Many species of violets are carefully cultivated. The Violet has Flowers with 5 petals, with the lower one longer and spurred. The 2 lateral ones are bearded. The plant flowers March through June. It's leaves are high in vitamin A and C and may be cooked as greens or eaten raw in salads. The flowers can be made into candy or jelly.
