open/split plastic bands for finches. Easy to put on, and take off. So easy to put on, that you can use a paper clip! I have used this type of band for several years, and prefer them.

These bands are not the thin, hard plastic kind that you may be familiar with. They are made of a soft, slightly thicker plastic that allows the band to be put on easily, and remove easily. Because of this, the band sits slightly off the leg allowing you to easily see the band on the bird in a large flight.

Can be used on most finches, including Gouldians, Zebra, Stars, and some canaries. They should not be put on babies that are in the nest. You can however, place them on the babies just prior to fledging, and any time for adults

Caution!!!

Leg bands do not stretch or change size as the birds grow. Each breed needs a series of different sizes until they become adults. If a leg band is left too long on a growing bird its leg will grow around the leg band causing severe problems. Using leg bands on growing fowl requires a certain amount of care and attention. You'll need to be responsible and attentive to be sure you don't cause more harm than good.

Picking a size...

There's a lot of "wiggle room" in the sizes of leg bands. As you can see, one size doesn't fit all. It's best to go a size above rather than a size below if you're not quite sure what you need. For instance, a size 10 should work very well for Leghorns without falling off, and may be a better option than the number 9. If you just aren't sure, we can suggest a size for you, or try to help. We don't claim to be leg band size professionals, but we can usually hit it pretty darned close. If there's a problem, we'll always be here to help.
