MARIGOLD - FRENCH BONITA. 
Botanical Name: Tagetes patula. 
Description: Produces bright displays throughout summer. Ideal as edging plants, in rockeries, gardens or in hanging baskets. Sow Spring - summer. Sow 5mm deep in desired position. Requires full sun with protection from strong winds. Thin seedlings to 25cm apart. Flowers around 12 weeks from sowing. Remove dead flower heads to prolong flowering. Germination: 10 to 14 days. Plant: Early spring to mid-summer.

Sowing: Plant in a sunny well drained position. Sow 5mm deep and cover seed very lightly with seed raising mix, firm down and mist spray carefully until moist, don't wash the little seeds out :-) Prefers full sun, well drained position and protection from wind.

Companion Planting: Marigolds secrete a substance from their roots which kills nematodes preventing them from attacking the roots of tomatoes, potatoes, beetroot, lettuces, cabbages, carrots, chrysanthemums, carnations, roses and dahlias. How great is that for a home gardener. Petals are also pretty tossed through a green salad.

Harvest: From 12 weeks continuously through summer and into autumn.

Uses: Suitable for pots, planters, borders, and veggie gardens. A colorful and helpful plant.
