Auction is for an EDWIN M. KNOWLES COLLECTOR PLATE, MADE FOR RECO INTERNATIONAL CORP. This plate is 8 & 1/2" and is named "Awakening", by Artist John McClelland. This is Plate #1374, of the first issue in the Becky's Day Collection. This edition was strictly limited to 90 firing days; this plate is the first plate of the series. It comes with the collateral marketing insert - an overview of the plate and art, by Artist Ruth A. LaVine. There is also a photo of the plate and a blurb about the Plate's Artist John McClelland. The plate is accompanied by a CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. . This plate is in NEW condition.
The plate is marked by both Reco & Edwin M. Knowles.

The Edwin M. Knowles Company was established in Chester, West Virginia, but moved to Newell, West Virginia, in 1900. In later years, a newphew, Fred B. Lawrence, Sr., took over management of the Company. Efforts to find a buyer for the plant in 1962 proved futile. In 1963, Robert Boyce and a Mr. Tuck, area businessman, bought the Knowles real estate.
Reco International was founded by Heio W. Reich in 1967. The company became established as a leading manufacturer and distributor of high quality, limited edition collectibles. Reich, a native of Berlin, Germany won many awards for developing and importing elegant works, from some of Europe's leading factories and art studios like: KPM Berlin, Furstenberg, Dresden, Royal Germania Crystal, Kings Fine Porcelain, Moser and many more. In the mid 1970's, Reich developed a relationship with this Artist, with whom was developed, many artistic and beautiful children's works of art.
