	Ochrosia elliptica grows into a large shrub or small spreading tree 5 to 9 metres tall. Bloodhorn has attractive leathery dark green elliptic to obovate leaves up to 8-20cm long and 4-8cm wide. The leaves occur in whorls of 3 or 4. From October to February, the flowers occur in axilliary clusters and are small, yellow/white and fragrant. They are followed by pairs of striking red fruit 5-6 cm long by 2-3 cm in diameter, which resemble elongated tomatoes or a pair of red horns. This gives rise to its common name of Bloodhorn. Unfortunately, the fruit are poisonous, and plants bleed white sap copiously when wounded. Bloodhorn may be found to within a few meters of the sea and has potential in beach stabilization projects. Obviously salt tolerant, it would make an attractive specimen plant for a coastal garden in a warm climate, though the fact that the attractive fruit are poisonous must be taken into account.

The species is frost sensitive and has been rarely cultivated except by a few enlightened enthusiasts. Bloodhorn has attractive leathery dark green elliptic to obovate leaves. Derivation of Name: Ochrosia. (the common name for the genus is "yellow wood").. From Greek ochros, yellow or pale yellow, apparently in reference to the color of the wood of some species. elliptica...referring to the elliptical shape of the leaves. Propagation is from fresh seed or cuttings.
Ochrosia is a member of the Oleander, frangipani and vinca family. It is a small evergreen tree with leathery leaves. It produces an interesting but poisonous fruit. If you want one of this and one of that, it is hard to discount much as each different species requires it's own prep, packing, then at USDA each has to be unwrapped and inspected then repacked. USDA requires me to clean and prepare every last piece before we drive them to the Inspection Station on the other side of the island. It takes my wife and I, a day to pack items and get ready to ship. The whole next day we drive around the island and get inspected (2-3 hours), then drive to the Airport Post Office to drop off. It takes the same work with the same type item if you can understand.

LIVE PLANTS ARE PERISHABLE. For this reason uninsurable.         When you order a plant we assume you are prepared to care for it. Please have potting media and a container prepared for your plant before it arrives. Shipping can be stressful on a plant, and any mistakes that you make upon arrival can stress the plant further, which is not good. Proper care is critical upon arrival. It is your responsibility to know how to care for the plant. Not every plant that I order through the mail survives, and I am aware of that and accept the risk when I order. This is the risk that you as the buyer accept, because there is no way to know what kind of conditions it will endure in the trip to your door. My responsibility ends when a live plant is delivered to your door. Live arrival is guaranteed, eternal survival is up to you. Please Do NOT email me a week after potting your plant, and make a claim it arrived damaged. From delivery confirmation, you have only 48 hours from delivery confirmation to make any claim.	All claims need to be supported with Photos of the damaged plant(s) as packed/unpacked, the box if damaged, the packing materials and any documents.
