Royal palms are widely planted for decorative purposes throughout their native region, and elsewhere in tropical and subtropical regions. They are  Its ability to withstand a polluted atmosphere and to grow well on either moist, well-drained soils or partially compacted fill dirt makes it valuable as a landscape plant. The roots don't damage sidewalks or curbs even when the trees are planted in constricted spaces.	Please note that the Cuban Royal palm in the foreground has the bulbous base. The Imperial Royal Palms in the background have straight non-bulbous bases.   This species is easily distinguished from the other Royals in that all the leaves are held way above the crown shaft, while the more commonly grown Roystenea regia, have leaves that hang down below the crownshaft. Roystonea oleracea can be differentiated from R. regia because of its wide leaflets in a single plane while R. oleracea   has thin leaflets, in a plumose arrangement.       Roystonea oleracea is one of the most beautiful and tallest of all the Royal Palms, as well as one of the most beautiful palms in the world, the Imperial Royal Palm, common on the slopes and valleys of moist limestone hills. A tall, solitary palm to about 30m, with a very solid, white trunk like concrete, wide leaflets, and pinnate leaves. Often said to be the most attractive of the Royal Palms, despite not being as common as Roystonea regia.             The Venezuelan Royal Palm is endemic and very similar to the royal palms of other Antilles islands. Royal palms have adapted to the high winds by easily shedding their leaves. This leaves a bare trunk that more likely to survive a severe storm than a trunk with a full set of leaves. The palms quickly renew their foliage after such an event. It grows abundantly in rainforests that have deep soils. Cultivation:   Likes a full sun, well drained position preferably on limestone based soils and doesn't mind wet feet.. Seed is easily germinated and seedlings can take full sun immediately and are very fast growing. A very fast grower once it starts trunking. Mature trees withstand hurricane force winds, and also transplant very easily. Royal palms are rather intolerant of cold weather. The foliage will show cold damage at 31ºF (-1ºC) and the palm will defoliate at 29ºF (-2ºC). Royal Palms may be killed by temperatures of 25ºF (-4ºC). That said, seemingly "dead" Royal Palms may occasionally "return to life" after severe freezes in the low 20ºF range (-5 or -6ºC), but there is usually a trunk constriction that marks the event.

Please have potting media and a container prepared for your plant before it arrives. Shipping can be stressful on a plant, and any mistakes that you make upon arrival can stress the plant further, which is not good. Proper care is critical upon arrival. It is your responsibility to know how to care for the plant. Not every plant that I order through the mail survives, and I am aware of that and accept the risk when I order. This is the risk that you as the buyer accept, because there is no way to know what kind of conditions it will endure in the trip to your door.
