Musa Beccarii is an elegant medium-sized ornamental banana that
suckers freely. The dark pink to dark red inflorescence is great for flower
arrangements and makes a spectacular focal point in any tropical garden.
With beautiful pest-free foliage and a burgundy midrib running down it's leaves, Musa
Beccarii produces an upright, cone-like, long lived inflorescence with red,
tightly overlapping bracts that sport yellowish green tips.
Musa
beccarii is a late bloomer. It is always the last to start growing in the
spring and then never flowers until late in the year. This is a very
sensitive banana and will go dormant once temperatures get to near 40F.

The very similar Musa velutina and Musa coccinea both produce upright lotus-like bracts,
but it's the ornamental display of pink to purple flowers that makes Musa
Beccarii special.
Musa Beccarii is a must-have for its purple-red-pink bracts that scream for attention.
The closely overlapping bracts are shiny, green and red with yellow tips.
The plants begins flowering when 1 to 1.5 m high. Inflorescence appears at
the top of the stem which has very short but rough hairs.
The plant is 3 to 3.5 meters tall, the pseudo-stem 1 to 1.5 meters high. The
sheaths are green and shiny with a brown-purple rim. The petiole is 30 to 35
cm long. The leaves are long and narrow, up to 100 cm long and 30 cm wide,
bright green, oblong and lanceolate.
The fruits appear in an upright small group of 2 to 5 hands each with 1 to 3
fruits. The fruit appears on a short fruit stem. The fruit is cylindrical
but narrower towards the tip. It is between 5 and 15 cm long and 2 cm in
diameter. |
The Musa Beccarii is a revered fruiting banana grown here in Hawaii. Ornamental
bananas are the current rage of landscaping.
Generally divided into two categories, the classification of bananas consist edible and
ornamental bananas. Musa Beccarii, with its lanky form and burgundy flowers, gives a
dramatic accent to any bed of greens.
Musa Beccarii is an excellent indoor plant and is one of the few
bananas that will actually flower and bear fruit indoors. It prefers a shady
location, but tolerates full sun.
The ornamental flowers are female and male.
Sometimes there are hermaphrodite flowers; they are self-pollinated. Viable seed is then
produced.
The plant has an corm or underground tuber from which the pseudo-stem grows.
When bloom is finished, this corm dies but makes new corms from which new
plants grow. It produces suckers freely. |

For 2-3 winning auctions, the combined discount is 10% of the total Shipping and Handling
charges. For 4-7 winning auctions, the combined discount is 20% of the total Shipping and
Handling charges. For 7+ winning auctions, the combined discount is 30% of the total
Shipping and Handling charges.
As each order is packed and prepared separately you will pay the quoted S/H charges
individually per item. If you buy the same species in that item it does calculate out the
discount (i.e.: additional item $3.61). My stores' combined shipping is built in for same
items rather than a varied selection. Includes postage, USDA certification and inspection,
proper packing and delivery to Airport for prompt delivery. I cant really change any
of these. If you want one of this and one of that, it gets hard to discount much as each
different species requires it's own prep & packing, then at USDA each has to be
unwrapped and inspected then repacked. USDA requires me to clean and prepare every last
piece before we drive them to the Inspection Station on the other side of the island. It
takes my wife and I, a day to pack items and get ready to ship. The whole next day we
drive around the island and get inspected (2-3 hours), then drive to the Airport Post
Office to drop off. It takes the same work with the same type item if you can understand.

Seed is a live product which depends on many important related grower skills such
as proper planting time, seed depth, type of soil, irrigation, proper use of fertilizers,
weed controls, fungicides, insecticides, disease free soil, and reasonable weather
conditions during the growing period. Germination is affected by such factors as
temperature, moisture content, light intensity and contamination of planting media. These
factors are totally out of the seller's control and are the buyer's responsibility and
risk. Consequentially, the seller cannot unconditionally guarantee seed to perform
properly regardless of conditions or the buyer's methods or mistakes. |
