Richard Franklin as a child and young adult traveled extensively, studying the beauty and glory of the "old masters". His ability to combine the romance and dimension of the works of the masters with the color and solitude of our contemporary world has gained him strong following worldwide. His treatment of the human figure draws on a mythological ,religious and secular vision of the past. The current popularity of the Neoclassical style has brought additional attention to Franklin's work. Franklin was born in Virginia and killed in a small plane accident in 1997 in Arizona. He was 35 years old.
