Worcester Lock & Co lidded EPNS sugar barrel handpainted by W. Stinton in 1910 with Pheasant scene "stunning"
valued at $2000
This beautiful extremely sought after antique barrel was made by Locke & Co of the Shrub Hill Works in Worcester, a fine porcelain company taken over by Royal Worcester in 1914.
The decoration is a soft blush ivory & has an exquisite handpainted pheasant on the front. The jar is relief-moulded with a band of raised dots interspersed with foliate shapes around the shoulders & has gilt highlights.
The Locke & Co, Worcester England backstamp in use from 1902 to 1914, with this piece dated to 1910 by Stinton. The rim is marked with EPNS, England with a small hallmark underside of the lid I can't work out. Also has a hand painted series number reading 1028.
The jar is in as new condition, and the paint work is immaculate.
