Part of one of the great baseball families of all-time, Jesus Alou was teammates with his brothers Matty Alou and Felipe Alou with the San Francisco Giants. I believe they got to start a game by forming the outfield for the Giants in 1963.
He is also the uncle of major league outfielder Moises Alou. Alou was a Houston Astros coach in 1979.
Jesus, Felipe, and Matty each played at least 15 seasons in the majors, and Moises topped that by a couple.
Jesus, who had at least 400 at-bats each year in the majors from 1965-71.
He was said to be one of the nicest human beings on the planet. He won a couple of World Series rings with the Oakland A's. He was tough to strike out.
Jay Alou signed this Houston Astros postcard in blue ballpoint pen for me nearly 40 years ago.
