ED RUNGE, the pride of San Diego, was the father of umpire Paul Runge and grandfather of umpire Brian Runge. He was also about the greatest guy you'd ever want to meet.
Ed began in the Big State League in 1947-1948. He moved up to the Pacific Coast League from 1949 to 1953.
He earned his Hall of Fame stripes in the American League from 1954 to 1970. He also spent time in the Cuban Winter League.
This is one of those Bowman "COLOR TV" cards sold in 1955, the last year of the original Bowman Gum Company cards. The Hall of Famer's signature is in blue ballpoint pen.
The card was in an album and shows the effects on the back.
