This auction is for a nicely-signed 1963 Topps baseball card, number 108 in the 1963 Topps set, featuring the signature of Hall of Fame pitcher Hoyt Wilhelm.

The card was signed in blue ballpoint pen about 45 years ago for me.

The term for a reliever was "fireman" back then, as Wilhelm became a Hall of Famer in his role as a relief pitcher.  He also had a no-hitter in 1958 against the New York Yankees in one of his few starting roles.

My favorite Wilhelm stat is that he hit a home run in his first at bat with the New York Giants in 1952 - then, never hit another in 20 more years of major league play.
