This is a man who could hit!
Riggs "Old Hoss" Stephenson was a football star at the University of Alabama, but it was as a baseball player that he made his living, going directly to the Cleveland Indians. He didn't hit it big until he was sent to the Chicago Cubs.
The injury to his shoulder at Alabama hampered the outfielder / second baseman, and eventually his injuries derailed what was otherwise destined to be a Hall of Fame career. He didn't sit around and cry about it - he became a successful businessman in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Akron, Alabama after a stint as a minor league manager.
This is a reprint from Renata Galasso and it was signed for me by Riggs Stephenson just prior to his death.
Including the career-shortening injuries, Riggs Stephenson was the Bo Jackson of his day.
