The KGB Chicken is featured on this 1977 Novelty Clock issued by San Diego radio station KGB.
SAN DIEGO CHICKEN / FAMOUS CHICKEN / KGB CHICKEN (as he was then known) made minimum wage wearing a feathered costume and appearing for rock and roll radio station, KGB-FM (and KGB-AM) at San Diego-area events.
The Chicken, Ted Giannoulas, then a student at San Diego State, was selected for the mascot because he was dimunitive enough to fit inside the costume. He appeared mostly at San Diego Padres games at San Diego Stadium / Jack Murphy Stadium / Qualcomm Stadium.
Once he freed himself from KGB's shackles via bitter litigation, he became wealthy beyond his wildest dreams.
The old C-cell battery quartz movement is gone, replaced with a AA-cell movement. The wood on the back was altered for fit. The hands are original. It keeps perfect time.
