This auction is for a QRS player piano word roll #42686 featuring
BLACK BOTTOM
composed in 1926 by Ray Henderson with lyrics by Buddy G. DeSylva & Lew Brown and played on this roll by J. Lawrence Cook. This song was included in the 1956 film The Best Things in Life Are Free.
The Lyric Begins:
“They call it black bottom
A new swisher
A sure galloon
An old sister
They clap their hands and do the raggedy trot
Hot!
Old fellows with flamenco
And young fellows the way they go
They jump right in and give it all that they've got
[Spoken]
Then one night something happened
Dame fortune showed her face
The star got sick and I was told to go on in her place.
But, she recovered.
Oh well!
[Sung]
Black bottom, a new rhythm
when you spot'em, you go with'em
And do that black, black, black, black bottom
You wont be blue when you have got'em
If you do that black, black, black, black bottom all day.…”
The roll is in excellent condition with light if any soiling from handling at the tab end with a small tear at the right edge but otherwise no notable wear. The box and label are original with edge and corner wear and tape holding the label on. Thank you for your interest!
