Glass Ruby Red Gilded Enameled Beer Stein c.1870s

Description: This beautiful old stein was mouth-blown of crystal glass into a very elegant shape around mid-1870s. It was colored in bright ruby using "flash" method very common in 1850 - 1870s. The stein was also decorated with white enamel and gold. This quite interesting technique was done by a skilfull craftsman with extreme precision so the effect is quite astonishing! The lid is made of pewter with porcelain inlay hand-painted with a picture of a beautiful mountain view. This miniature porcelain painting is another work of art by itself. It was called "Lupe" painting in Germany since this could be only done under magnifying glass.

The stein is in excellent flawless condition. It is 6.5" tall to the top of the thumblift.
