Jugendstil Beer Stein R.Merkelbach by K.Mehlem c.1919 # 3292

Description: Presented is a beautiful German large beer stein/pitcher that was manufactured by Reinhold Merkelbach - the most famous manufacturer of Jugendstil beer steins and other ceramics. The ceramics pieces created by R.Merkelbach are the best examples of the new aesthetics that emerged to replace so-called Historismus style that was reigning for almost half a century. The artists who worked for R.Merkelbach included R.Riemerschmid, P.Wynand, B. Mauder, Karl Mehlem, Henry van de Velde and other famous designers and art professors of Art Nouveau/Jugendstil era. The stein is made of stoneware and glazed with "koelnisch braun" glaze - a very special glaze technique used exclusively by R.Merkelbach designers. It is probably designed by Karl Mehlem, but I am not 100% sure. The lid is pewter designed specifically for this stein..
The stein is in excellent condition - there is no damage or repairs. It is marked with "R.Merkelbach Grenzhausen" mark and 3292 model number. The stein is 8" tall to the top of the thumblift, 1.5L capacity
