Mettlach Beer Stein #3079 Bavaria Jugendstil c.1908 Description: This excellent flawless condition stoneware beer stein was made by Villeroy and Boch in Mettlach in around 1908 as indicated by the mark on the bottom. It is made in easily recognisable Jugendstil style. In 1905 - 1910 Mettlach issued the whole series of stein called "Bavaria" that was designed in very popular Jugendstil style. These steins are marked with the regular Mettlach tower incised mark with the word "Bavaria" added underneath. They usually decorated with hand-painted transfer outline. Some of them have just the mold numnber, some have the decoration number in addition to it. This one is made of mold number 3079 with dcoration 514 - a beautiful and stylish flower basket. The lid is slightly different from the usual lid on Bavaria stein. However at that time people could choose what type of lid they want for their stein. The Bavaria steins with different kind of lid are quite rare.
