Antique Bronze Statue Russian Peter the Great c.1900 Description: Presented is a beautiful bronze sculpture that represents the most famous of Russian tsars - Peter the Great. The statue is cast of solid bronze with exceptional detail work. It is a copy of the statue made in 1841 by the French sculptor T.Jacques. The original sculpture is standing in the town of Kronstadt. This is one of a very few full body images of Peter the Great - most of the statues are either horsebacks or busts. The Tsar is wearing the uniform of Preobrazhensky Regiment - the regiment that he created and that was his main support for all his years. The statue is cast of real bronze and very well patinated - the patina is quite real and indicate the statue was made before the Revolution - probaly in early 1900s. Besides, there was no consumer bronze production in Soviet Union. The sword is made of steel, the pedestal is onyx. The condition is excellent. It is 8.5" tall including pedestal.
