Captain Jack was a terror of Oregon and California in the 1870's. The Modoc tribe was trying to rid itself of the influx of white men to their territory. Captain Jack was the Chief of all the Modoc tribes.
The trouble had started in 1864 when they had been forced along with the Klamaths to cede their land to the US Government. He fought until he had exhausted his every resource and was betrayed by his own warriors. He is a tragic figure in American History. Illustrated with photos
