Being presented for sale is this Splendid American 19th Century Maple Tall Post Canopy Tester Rope Bed. This charming bed is crafted in wonderful rich solid maple and has four tall ring turned tapering posts joined by a rectangular canopy frame,the head-post are joined by a slightly arched head-board with small incurved sides, straight, chunky side rails and raised up on tall baluster turned legs, with the original rope pegs still intact on all four sides. This fine period bed measures a total height to the top of the tester frame on the posts of 80 inches ( 6 ft 7 inches),, height to the top of the head-board is 39 inches, height of the foot-board and the side rails measure 19 inches. The outside measurements of the bed are 57 inches wide by a total length of 81 1/2 inches,and the inside mattress area measures 49 inches wide by 74 1/2 inches long and should accommodate a full size mattress; using a twin or 3/4 box springs resting inside the heavy L brackets and the full size mattress placed on top of the box springs with the mattress edges nestling next to the rope pegs or it would accommodate a 3/4 mattress set. The linen type fabric on the tester frame has tassel fringe and measures 8 inches long and is in great vintage condition; but if one so desires it can easily be changed to fabric to match your decor. There is one of the old bed brass bed bolt covers missing on the left head-board side and I have shown this in a close-up picture, and a chip on the backside of the headboard post which I have also shown a picture of.The total weight of this bed is approximately 175 lbs,this is a very heavy, well crafted 19th century bed that is very solid and tight, and would surely be the grand focal point in any bedroom!
