Being presented for sale is this Exquisite Victorian Renaissance Revival Carved Walnut and Ebony 2 piece Bedroom set with an abundance of magnificent carvings circa 1870. This set is a superior example of quality Victorian Renaissance Revival furniture of the 19th century and has a captivating presence. The plethora of detailed carvings of scrolls, shells, geometric carvings and rosettes with ebonized trim are beautifully executed in the rich walnut .
The Bed:
This stunning bed measures a total height to the top of the head-board is 88 inches ( 7 ft 4 in), height of the foot-board measures 39 inches, the height to the flat portion of the side rails measure 16 inches, The outside measurements of the bed are 61 1/2 inches wide by 79 inches long and the inside mattress area measures 56 1/2 inches wide by 73 1/2 inches long and should accommodate a full size mattress set nicely but one should always measure their mattress set to assure proper fit. The total weight of this bed is approximately 200 lbs total.
This gorgeous bed offers a beautiful highly carved arched bonnet top at the head-board with a magnificent carved cartouche at the center with a geometric carved skirt below with turned incised supports that rise above the triple back headboard. The side frame of the headboard has substantial incised carved finials, raised medallions, carved shells and heavy scroll corbels. The ornate heavy bed-rails offer stunning carvings at the headboard end,the foot-board is equally impressive with matching triple recessed panels with ebonized trim like the head-board with carved urn supports and rosettes. A gorgeous, quality made bed 19th century bed that sets up tight and secure that's ready to be placed in your home and has a wow presence all of its own! (The bed does dis-assemble into 8 pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving: the head-board, 2 finials, footboard,2 rails, 2 rail humps)
The bed does have a tiny piece (tip) of the scalloped geometric skirt missing on the left side corner at the top of the head-board,an age shrinkage area in the wood above the center arch on the head-board,a sliver of molding missing about 2 inches long on the very bottom of the foot-board trim, 2 small slivers of wood missing of the bottom molding around the feet. All these things are just common marks of character from age and usage over the past 140 years and are not prominent at all in my opinion but just wanted to mention they are there.
The Dresser:
The regal, matching tall drop center Tennessee brown marble top dresser is equally beautiful and measures 93 inches( 7ft 9 in.) in total height, 56 inches wide, 22 inches deep, height from the floor to the top of the marble at the center is 20 1/2 inches, height to the marble on each side measures 33 1/2 inches and this dresser weighs approximately 220 lbs. The dresser offers the same beautiful carvings and ornate details as the bed. The Tennessee Brown beveled edge marble is original and in beautiful condition. The mirror appears to be original and is in excellent antique condition with only some slight silver dusting and measures 51 1/2 inches in height by 19 inches wide. There is an age shrinkage crack in the wood on the right side top of the mirror frame which I have shown in a close-up picture.. appears to have been there for some time and common in these antique pieces and doesn't appear to be an issue.
The large dresser base offers 2 smaller drawers on each side above two large drawers. Each one having recessed walnut fronts with ebony trim, period dove-tailed ends and wood pulls, with the large drawers at the bottom featuring fantastic carved key escutcheons at the center. The locks are no longer present on the smaller drawers but are intact on the larger ones but we do not have the key.The dresser does dis-assemble into 5 pieces for easier transport during moving and shipping ( the mirror frame, 3 pieces of marble and the base). This dresser is also quality made and is as equally impressive as the bed and ready to be placed in your home.
