The city of Lyon has decided to open an international urban exhibition on May 1, 1914, which will be organized by the municipal administration. The aim is to make known all the progress made in the field of municipal administration and hygiene, whether it is public works or social institutions. The exhibition covers an impressive 75 hectares in the La Mouche district, hitherto little invested in, to the south of the city and at the end of the Perrache peninsula. The Exhibition has a real international vocation with more than 17,000 m2 dedicated to the pavilions of Foreign Nations and a real universal ambition: 17,232 companies present their economic and industrial activities there. The Exhibition highlights its project for a modern and original city, which responds to issues related to urban development, new needs, hygienic theories and necessary social progress. The project is led by four men, Édouard Herriot, senator-mayor of Lyon, future President of the Council and minister, the urban planner Tony Garnier, the doctor and hygienist Jules Courmont and the vice-president of the Lyon Chamber of Commerce, Louis Pradel
