Description: The listing is for two separate prints that would frame up nicely as a pair. They are authentic antique copper engraved print over 225 years old with the plate marks clearly embossed around the margin. They are from an English edition of Count de Buffon's Histoire Naturelle, Generale et Particliere, published in Edinburgh, 1780. Count de Buffon (1707-1788), a French naturalist, often considered the father of modern natural history, was the director of the Jardin du Roi in Paris, the French version of Britain's Kew Gardens, during which he published his 36 volume work on Natural History, which is considered one of the seminal works on Natural History. These prints were published in a 1780 English edition, a facsimile copy of the title page is included for authenticity. It is being sold as a single sheet, not mounted nor framed. Overall a very nice pair of miniature sized print that would frame up very well.
Size: The image areas measure approximately 3 by 5 inches on 5 by 8 1/4" pages as seen in the pic.
Condition: The prints are in Very Good condition for their age with overall tonal ageing, blank on the reverse, basically as seen in the pic. There are a few minor spots, mainly around the margin as can be seen in the pics, otherwise the images are very clean and would frame up nicely, see the pics for more on condition. The pics are of the actual prints. The page is very flexible and well presevered with the typical striation lay pattern of antique paper when held to the light.
