Description: It is an original antique copper engraved print over 200 years old with the plate marks clearly embossed around the margin. It is designed by Francesco Piranesi and engraved by Tommasso Piroli, published in the Antiquities d'Herclanum (Paris, 1804). Francesco was the son of Giovanni Piranesi best know of the family for his meticulous prints of the ruins of Rome. Francesco inherited the business and moved the business to Paris where he continued the tradition reprinting his fathers works as well as adding his own, including the 3 volume set on the ruins of Herculaneum from which this print comes. Being sold as a single sheet, not mounted nor framed. Over all a very nice example of this work.
Size: The image area measures approximately 3 1/2 by 9 inches (each of the 2 long panorama views are 1 1/2 inch high) on a 8 1/4 by 11" page with a margin all around as seen in the pic.
Condition: The print is in Very Good condition for its age, blank on the reverse, basically as seen in the pic. There are some minor brown areas in the margin, otherwise the print area is very clean with plenty of clean surrounding margin for matting. It is nice strong impression that would frame up well, see the pic for more on condition. The pics are of the actual print.
