Title: A Vaqueilada (The scene shows a popular Brazilian rodeo event in which one or usually two cowboys race after a cow or bull and grab it by the tail and flip it over before it can cross a designated line, similar to calf roping but without the rope.)
Description: It is an original woodcut or wood block print signed and dated in pencil by the artist Givanildo in the bottom right. It is a Folk Art print depicting subject matter that is typical of the farmers and ranchers of the Sertanejo (the dry interior backlands of Northeast Brazil). In the Woodcut process the design is first drawn in reverse on a block of wood, then the white areas are carefully carved away leaving a relief on which ink or pigment is applied and then printed onto a sheet of paper, usually by running it through a press. The print is being sold as a single sheet that is not matted nor framed. The margin area is actually larger than shown in the pic, we have cropped it slightly to focus on the art image as it might look matted. Overall, a beautiful original print signed and dated in pencil by the artist!
Size: The image area measures 8 1/2 by 9 inches (21x23cm) and is on a 13 x 19" (33x48cm) sheet with a very wide margin all around as seen in the pics.
Condition: It is a recently made new print in Excellent condition. Typical of Folk Art and the woodcut process, there may be a spot or two of stray pigment or light printing of certain areas, so take a good look at the pic. In general, the artist has done a very skillful job of crafting the print and most are almost perfect in execution. Overall, it is a very nice print on a strong clean sheet, basically as seen in the pic.
