Description: It is an authentic woodcut antique print approximately 450 years old, originally published in Sebastian Munster's Cosmographia, one of the first encyclopedia style works attempting to put the geography, history and cultures of the world in perspective. Munster's Cosmographia was first published in 1544 and continued to be published throughout the century, this one came to us with a circa date of 1550. It is a leaf from a book so there is text on the reverse as well. It is not matted nor framed being sold as a single sheet with a centerfold as shown in the main pic. The parragraph next to it does mention the Barbarian invasions and various kings, but my 16th century German is not good, so hopefully you can read the page from the pic for more information on who is shown. There is also text on the reverse.
Size: The inset print is small measuring approximately on a page measuring 2 1/2 by 4 1/4 inches (7cm by 11cm). The page measures 8 1/2 by 14 inches (22cm by 36cm).
Condition: The print is in Good condition for its age, with text on the reverse, printed on quality cotton paper of the period with the typical striation when held to the light. It is basically as seen in the pics. There is some light backprinting and browning as usual and some edgewear and heavy smudging in the bottom corner as can be seen in the pics.. The pics are of the actual print.
