Title: Namurcum Comitatus Brabantiae
Description: It is an authentic copper engraved antique map over 375 years old. It is a classic Dutch map from the Golden Age of Cartography, a period that flourished in Holland during the 1600s, which many consider the high point in the history of mapmaking when art and design was merged with the curiosity of a new vision of the globe as the Dutch West and East Indies Companies sailed the oceans, stimulating much curiosity in the Netherlands and elsewhere for travel and geography. It is by Petrus Kaerius (also known as Van den Keere), whose name appears in the bottom right cartouche along with the date "P. Kaerius Excud. 1617" printed on the map. It is not matted nor framed being sold as a single double sheet with a centerfold as shown in the main pic. It is a rare version of the map showing the Namurceses in the bottom corner and the view of Namurcum in the upper left.
Size: The map image measures approximately 14 1/2 by 19 inches o a page measuring 17 by 22 1/2" as seen in the main pic.
Condition: The map is only in Fair condition for its age with tonal aging and original hand color and a centerfold as issued. It is basically as seen in the pics, which best represents the conditions. There is a lot of wear around the margins with edge tears and paper loss with some old repairs and added paper in the margins. The paper is actually very pliable printed on quality cotton paper of the period. The color is really superb and original. There is a separation of about 4 inches along the top of the centerfold. In general, the map image is fairly clean of any distracting stains, although certainly has a rich patina often desired that would frame up very nicely. Again, it is best to look closely at the pics for more details on condition. The pics are of the actual map.
