Description: It is an original copper engraved antique map by Guillaume De L'Isle, also found as De Lisle and Delisle (1675-1726), who began a new era in cartography basing his maps on new astronomical measuring technology to create some of the most accurate maps of the era. He was elevated to Royal Geographer to the King of France in 1717 and produced many maps for the Royal Academy of Sience. This is a very early map that was published in Freres Chatelain, La Science des Personnes de la Cour, Ed L'Epe'E Et de la Robe, (Amsterdam: Chatelain, 1713). It is very well documented across the top "L'Asie Suivant Mr. De Lisle de L'Academie Royale des Sciences. A copy of the title page of Chatelain's La Science... is included for authenticity. The map is not mounted nor matted, being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. A very rare early map by De L'Isle first appearing in 1700 as one of "The Maps of the Continents" that were ocassionally used in the Royal Academy publications of the time, such as Chatelain. There is a lot of interesting detail and the Northeast is still unkown with Northern Japan just barely separated from the Continent.
Size: The map image measures approximately 5 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches on a 6 1/2 by 7 1/2" page as seen in the pic.
Condition: The map is in Very Good condition for its age in its original uncolored state with light overall tonal ageing, blank on the reverse with three vertical folds as issued. Other than a couple of minor spots and slight hint of backprinting on the left side, hardly worth mentioning, it is very clean with no obvious defects to mention, as seen in the pic. A very nice example that will frame up well. The pics are of the actual map and accurate of the condition.
