Description: It is an original copper engraved antique map over 150 years old with original hand coloring as issued. It is from Adolf Stieler's Schul-Atlas Uber alle Theile der Erde published in Gotha by Justus Perthes, 1853. A copy of the title page is included for authenticity. The name of the atlas is in the upper right corner and the publisher's name appears in the bottom center margin. The map is not mounted nor matted, being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. These are the smaller maps from the school atlas, we also have some of the larger Stieler maps from the Hand Atlas in other listings.
Size: The map image (inside the neat lines) measures approximately 7 1/2 by 9 1/2 inches (19x24cm) on a page measuring 8 1/2 by 11" (22x28cm) with a margin all around for framing as seen in the main pic.
Condition: The map is in Fair condition with overall tonal aging, basically as seen in the pics, blank on the reverse with original handcoloring as issued. The pic basically shows the condition very well. As can be seen, there is smudging, some stains and some stray pencil marks on the map, some abrasions in the Gulf of Mexico and purple writing in the margin. Overall, it has a very rich patina for those looking for a map with a real aged quality. Pics are of the actual map.
