In the days of the Samurai, not everyone ran around Japan with a sword..... Set in early 19th century Edo, Yaji is a widower making a living by sculpting fancy pastries, he is secretly in love with Okino, a popular local courtesan frustratingly beyond his reach.
Getting too old for her job, courtesan Okino wants to make money fast and buy her freedom, but when her get-rich-quick scheme falls flat, she decides to make a run for it with the help of her admirer, kindhearted Yaji.
Yaji agrees and the couple soon find themselves accompanied by the hapless Kita, a failed actor and childhood friend of Yaji's who joins the escape party in hopes of starting his career over in another city.
With Okino's bosses in pursuit, the threesome hotfoots it into the countryside, and thus begins the delightful journey of these funny and likable misfits through feudal, fanciful Japan.
They will encounter colorful characters, incredible and amusing situations, and by the end of the journey they will have found real understanding, sincere friendship and true love.
