Price:  $12.99
Description:
Two Nights of Noh performance by two young stars, Mansai Nomura and Yoshimasa Kanze. Performed in Sapporo, Hokkaido. NOH: "Tsuchigumo" ("The Earth-Spider") - Based upon the 13th century Tale of Heike's story of the warrior Minamoto no Raiko's slaying of an earth-spider demon, this spectacular play, which features a battle that wages on even as an astounding ten strand, eight meter-long web spews to cover the entire stage, maintains considerable popularity with performances as well. The striking stage design composed by Teshigahara Akane (Headmaster of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana) is also a must see. (Noh is a major form of classical Japanese musical drama that has been performed since the 14th century. Many characters are masked, with men playing male and female roles). KYOGEN: Kane no Ne" ("The Bell's Toll'") - Ordered by his lord to travel to Kamakura to inquire about the price of "pure gold", the foolhardy Tarokaja mishears the phrase, impetuously setting off instead in search of the pure "toll" of a Buddhist temple's bell... Be entertained by the delightful sights and sounds of lone Tarokaja's whimsical evocation of the temple's lush scenery and the poignant tonality of its bell. (Kyogen is a form of traditional Japanese comic theater. It developed alongside Noh, was performed along with Noh as an intermission of sorts between Noh acts, on the same Noh stage, and retains close links to Noh in the modern day; therefore, it is sometimes designated Noh-kyogen") 2007 - JAPANESE with ENGLISH NARRATION - COLOR - 16:9 ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN - 80 MINUTES
