One of the most famous characters in Japanese cinema history, blind masseur/superhuman swordsman Zatoichi faces his final and toughest battle with 'Zatoichi The Last'.
The character Zatoichi has appeared in multiple forms over the years, and SMAP’s Katori Shingo now offers his own version as the fourth and final actor to take on the iconic character. In addition to casting a considerably younger star, writer Yamagishi Kikumi and director Sakamoto Junji gives the usually lone swordsman friends and family to protect, giving the character personal stakes that further his resolve to defeat the evil forces. And with legendary actor Nakadai Tatsuya playing one of the most powerful villains of the series, Zatoichi is going to need all the motivation he can get.
When his wife Tane accidentally dies in a bloody battle, blind masseur Zatoichi returns to his native village to lead a quiet life. While staying at the home of his friend Ryuji and his family, Zatoichi finds the peaceful life he’s looking for. However, that life is quickly threatened by the evil Tendo, who will use any means necessary to retain his iron grip over the village.
To protect the village and Ryuji’s family, Zatoichi decides he must pick up his sword once more.
