The Zatoichi television series is just as good as the film series that preceded it. In fact many may prefer the television series.
Since each episode is reduced to 45 minutes, you get to the climatic fight a lot sooner, and since the plot has to be simplified to accommodate less characters, the films are easier to follow.

Episode 12. AT THE OUTBREAK OF THE RAIN
The woman he saved gave Ichi a letter saying "Please come and see me". But she was cold and mean when Ichi finally found her. A notorious criminal is coming back to her town from jail. The a whole town is filled with high tension.
Episode 13. THE WOMAN WHO BETRAYED CHUJI
Ichi meets a weird married couple on a deep snowy road. The woman is the mistress of the famous boss, Kunisada Chuji. The man is one of Chuji's minions and gave up his wife for his boss. Ichi feels an obligation to Chuji, but at the same time he feels sorry for her. However, the man sold his wife to somebody else.
Episode 14. A DREAM AT THE AWA FESTIVAL
The excitement of the festival music, and people are screaming with joy. A night of the big Awa festival is coming. A mysterious woman with a hat is following him. The boy who came back to Awa with his father's ashes. In the chaos of the festival, Ichi's sword kills evil.
