The scientific name MEGALODON means, "Big Tooth." There is a widely accepted theory in science of estimating the size of the Megalodon Shark by the diagonal length of its 4 upper front teeth. The diagonal length of a tooth is measured from the longest root corner to the tip of the tooth. This theory states that there would be approximately ten feet of shark for every one inch of tooth. This theory is based on what we know about Megalodon's distant cousin, the modern Great White Shark. This tooth measures 5-1/16 inches long which means the shark that once owned it would have been 50 feet long! Considering this theory we can also estimate that a full grown Megalodon Shark would have weighed up to 8 times as much as a full grown Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur! Can you imagine a shark that big?! Most people do not realize that a REAL shark once existed that would have dwarfed the shark from "JAWS" and the Tyrannosaurus Rex from "Jurassic Park" combined!
These Shark Teeth Fossils make OUTSTANDING fish aquarium displays because no sharks were harmed in obtaining them! Kids love them and they are highly educational!
