This species is truly one of the rarest of the rare and this one is as good as you will probably ever see here on eBay! This is Alopias grandis which is more commonly called the Extinct Giant Thresher Shark. You will see literally thousands of Megalodon teeth for every one Thresher and most of the Threshers will be broken or barely recognizable fragments. It measures in at over 1-5/16 inches long and 1-1/16 inches wide. This one is out of my personal collection and is a real beauty! If you are not happy with it, just send it back because I really don't want to sell it anyway. This one is VERY High Quality! They don't get much better than this one!
This tooth was found while SCUBA diving in over 40 feet of some of the blackest and murkiest water you can imagine! Even with powerful lights you cannot see anything including your dive gauges! These teeth are found by feeling your way around on the bottom of a mucky, brackish water river where there are sting rays, sharks and even alligators! There are also very strong currents in these rivers that have claimed the lives of many very skilled SCUBA divers. Many people do not realize that most of the south eastern U.S.A. teeth are found in rivers and NOT the ocean. This is due to the fact that millions of years ago the land we now stand on was covered by the sea. When the oceans receded, the rivers were formed by the ocean's tidal currents and water flowing down hill from mountains and eventually formed the coastal rivers we know today. These rivers have carved their way into the land and into the fossil layers exposing these magnificent fossil shark teeth.
