Description
The title of this (I believe First Edition) 1883 book is:
"The Pilgrim's Progress,
From This World To That Which Is To Come."
"Delivered Under The Similitude Of A Dream"
- "With Mason's Notes."
The author is : John Bunyan.
The publisher is listed as: London: T. Nelson and Sons,
Paternoster Row. Edinburgh;
and New York. 1883.
The issues: with this book are beyond minor considering it's age and use and include- The cover is linen and there two waves probably caused by dampness on the front (picture #3 ) as well as on the lower right hand portion of the back cover (picture #7). There is a brownish discoloration on the right side of the inside covers both front and back- as if a document had been inserted for safe keeping (picture #9). There is no spotting. There are water stains on the right hand corner of each print, I believe because of the composition of those pages being more like card stock then paper . . . but no foxing and the binding is tight throughout. I have taken many photos of all, so please check my close ups for a better idea of what I'm talking about.
I have listed pictures of the signature page as well but just to be on the safe side . . .
The inscription reads:
Page 1- "Douglas Fuller, Barbara Peto, Wilson College", the title page- "William Fuller, Christmas 1885, With Best Wishes from J ? ??? I'm not even going to try and guess. Both are written in brown pen and ink . . . last but not least- there are six single sided prints/engravings.
This is a fantastic find for us both . . .
Please note: I recently acquired a small private library containing approx. 500 books- most date to around this time frame and for the most part are in excellent condition, with the subject matter being vast, so check back periodically for new~old book listings in auction format.
(I can only list a few each week~
and then my head starts to hurt.)
If you have any questions or concerns,
please don't hesitate to contact me prior to auctions end.
Thanks so much,
Victorian*Vixen.
