This super piece measures (framed) 17.5" by 13.75" tall.
It is an original "American Perpetual Banking and Counting House Calendar".
"Diagrams Exhibit The Difference Of Time Between The Places Shown and Washington".
Listed under the bottom of the "spinning day clock" reads:
"Entered According To Act of Congress By S.L. Barinds August 27, 1868 In The Clerks Office of The Southern District of Ohio".
At the very bottom, on the right hand corner it is marked-
"Lith of Strobridge & Co., Cin. O."
There is a circular cut in the center of the glass to accomadate a metal spinning wheel, and attached is a wooden handle- It shows shortened versions of the the days of the week, which spins a larger wheel that is then attached underneath and lists in red the full stated days of the week. This is a really unusual calender of sorts and would look incredible in a private library or office. There are reference tables listed on each side with dates ranging from 1709 through 2044. There is also patent date of May 1868 listed.
The Condition: Well . . . The frame itself although original is pretty beat up with chips throughout. There is a clean tear in the front portion of the calender, which if taken apart could be pressed out and restored, the spinning wheel in the underside I believe has come loose from some sort of attachment- (I didn't take the frame apart to see what is actually going on back there). But the worst part is a large crack in the glass in the lower right hand corner which leads up to the circular opening in the front. Again something I'm certain that could be re-cut and replaced- but I'll leave that to you. As you can see from the pictures- this is all original, including the backing, so age and use wear is to be expected. Definitely more then worth your investment in restoration.
