Elijah's ascension in
a chariot of fire gave him the title of protector from fire and thus turned
him into one of the most popular saints.
This naïve
style painting is signed by listed painter Gabaret Salgian. The wood panel was
professionally prepared and the quality of the work is superb. Naïve
paintings are often produced in isolation from each other and with little
influence from traditional art production concepts. Such paintings are
relatively less sophisticated than the comparative period Orthodox art and
lack conventional expertise in representational skills. Naïve paintings stand
out with bright and non-naturalistic colors, non-scientific perspectives, and
a childlike or literal-minded vision.
