1924 black & white advertisement for Hudson and Essex closed coach cars. Hudson Motor Car Company of Detroit, Mich., produced vehicles from 1909 until it merged with Nash to become American Motors in 1954. The Essex model was manufactured from 1919-1932 as a more affordable alternative to the Hudson. According to this ad, for example, the Essex was priced at $1,000 while a Hudson cost $1,500.
