THE DREAM CATCHER LEGEND
A well known Native American tradition is the presence of the "Dream Catchers" seen hanging throughout their homes. The Dream Catchers originated as Cradle Medicine. They were hung from the hoop of the infant's cradleboards to protect them from bad dreams and bad spirits. Legend has it that as night falls, dreams (both good and bad) flow in succession across the night sky and fill the air that surrounds us. These dreams though good or bad, succumb to the magic of the Dream Catcher. The good dreams flow through the Dream Catcher never awakening the dreamer and will rest on the feathers like dewdrops awaiting the warm morning sun. However, the unpleasant dreams become entangled in the web and are trapped by the prayer beads. They will perish in the heat of the sun never to be dreamt again. Dream Catchers are believed to bless the "sleeping one" with pleasant dreams, good luck and harmony throughout their lives.
