Robert Lile has reached middle age behind bars, proclaiming himself innocent of kidnapping a seventeen-year-old girl and raping her in the backseat of his car eighteen years ago. When he was 25, he had consensual sex with the minor, he says, but the Kansas Department of Corrections calls that claim "failure to accept responsibility for his crimes." Lile says he is even expected to admit things he's never been accused of: The Lansing state prison's Sex Abuse Treatment Program requires that inmates disclose all their crimes as a first step to recovery.
This requirement and the state's demand that Lile permit the use of a "plethysmograph", a device which purports to measure the level of his arousal while being exposed to taped scenes of rape, sexual battery, and various other violence related sexual scenes, on his penis have kept Lile in a legal battle with corrections for the past seven years. At the request of the State of Kansas, the United States Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case in November or December and decide whether the treatment program violates Lile's Fifth Amendment right not to be a witness against himself.

A "plethy" what graph? Couldn't a similar result be achieved with any male if shown pornographic videos? I don't understand how they are measuring guilt, culpability or even facts with this exercise.

After reading that article and the related one included in the first text, I can hardly believe such nonsense is going on. Certainly Kansas inmates who have been forced to participate in this program are incriminating themselves and the courts agree.
The test itself sounds like a description of the "treatment" given in the sci-fi movie A Clockwork Orange.
While we do not want sex offenders to go back out on the street and then re-offend, this is clearly not the way to approach the problem.

It is interesting that this same meter was used at the University of Georgia to identify men who are homophobic as repressed homosexuals.

Maybe they should set up checkpoints like roadblocks with a machine and if your wee wee
stands up for social unacceptable scenes you get a free ticket to jail from the thought police. We had a fellow on parole sent back to prison here in MI because he kept a notebook with stories about sex with kids. Not a real diary you understand but fiction he wrote for his own amusement and did not publish or intend to even share with anyone but it was found and given to his parole officer. It is scary no matter how creepy he was to be jailed for what you think without acting on it.

To force anyone to view pornography against their will under any cirucmstance should be a crime of the highest degree. It is forcing them to break a Commandment of equal weight to "Thou Shalt Not Kill".

Viewing pornography is equal to murder?
I don't agree that anyone should be forced to view pornography but equating just the viewing of pornography as a moral lapse as serious as murder is a little far out.
Did I misunderstand that?

Biblical infractions tend to fall into 3 groups
Capital crimes
a few crimes that resault in a fine
and - shame on you - no penalty but work on it

The poor guy probably never belonged in jail in the first place. When he was 25, he had consensual sex with the seventeen year old.
He was simply trying to exhibit kindliness and human affection.

I not only think this test is a violation of Lile's rights under the Fifth Amendment, and, although not part of the argument, I think this test is degrading and therefore inhumane to the basic rights of a human being.
I look forward to seeing how "The Supremes" see it.

I would not want anyone for any reason strapping/taping/clipping, or however it would be done, anything to my body and checking to see if I had a response to various stimuli!!!!!

This has been used on early released child molestors in the past with a little bell that goes of at headquarters. Not sure where but I read it in a news piece. The goal was to just make sure they were not molesting a child.

Yes, the word is "adultery"...That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Of course, the bible also has him saying: whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery
Wonder how many people in jt's area and/or church have been divorced and later remarried...

And what's the story on women looking at men?
This topic peaked my interest and I found that there is a lot of pornographic verse in the Bible. But, maybe the pornography has to be visual in order to qualify as sinful. I could provide a link to the Biblical porn but it might be too offensive.

HJW: perhaps they can come up with a device that attaches to a woman's lips or breasts. Seems like every romance novel has the heroine's lips swelling and her breasts pushing "pertly, impudently, coyly, etc." when she looks upon a man (usually a brooding one)....

Just wanted to point out that there is such a statement supposedly made by Jesus.
I also know many who truly feel they must "work" to try and achieve as high a level of "righteousness" as "humanly" possible.
Now the definition of righteousness does seem to be open to various interpretations.....
I'll get back on topic now.
