krs, thanks for the post.
I tend not to listen anymore to the research because in my 46 years on this planet, "they" change what's good for us about every two years. I figure "they" want the grant money.
All of my great grandparents lived to be over 84 (one to 96) and all of my grandparents lived over 80. They grew up poor with lots of kids, and ate whatever they could afford. Some smoked. None drank to excess, but almost all drank wine daily. Most were not thin by today's standards - a couple were fat. So, I think a lot has to do w/genes.
(Which doesn't mean that I think we should ignore research, just take it w/a grain of salt - not too much salt of course, just a grain.)
