The airlines better update their hazmat exposure SOPs pronto. So the passengers are sitting there increasing their exposure to a possible biologic agent. Oy!

I have to say that at this point anything that happens is one of two
things..plans that were in place from the start or an opportunist nut
cashing in on a bad situation.
retaliation is not an option for the enemy. the person who starts a war is
not in a retaliation position ,we are.
if the anthrax cases ARE related to the war we are in, it would have
happened no matter what move we make.
but I am curious why this is happening to news people. it cant be for
coverage? it would get the same or more coverage no matter where it
happened. why the press?
keep Oklahoma in mind, there are plenty of insane radicals here. I would
rather it be our enemy in the middle east doing this...at least we have a
target.

actually if airports were holding tight to even the little new security that was put in place this type of thing shouldn't be happening ..

its not just about people and baggage passing through detectors but about people them selves being on High alert for unusual activity and what not..

I believe now, that this is going to be a war aimed at demoralizing the people of America, which will paralize the economy and eventually cause the greatest economic (and mental) depression we have ever experience. One never gets accustomed to looking over one's shoulder. Fear is the most debilitating illness!

Hepburn...I am OK...Thank you for your concern...It's just that I feel that my heart is breaking...My Daughter should be returning later tonight. Can't wait to call! I wonder if she and her husband even KNOW that there was a "powder scare" so close to them, in Pleasanton!

If the airplane left chicago, where was it headed? And another question...does the air conditioning vents pour into the atmosphere? What if someone were to put stuff in it, would it stay in the plane, or would it come out and trickle on down here to earth?

Tigress said she wishes she had cable, but in this case it wouldn't make a difference.

There's NO word whatsoever of the San Jose incident on CNN, nor any other TV news source I can find. Ditto for the United flight at Dulles. If it weren't for the word of mouth here, I wouldn't know anything about it.

It strikes me as very strange.

The lord high whosit of the Taliban released a video today, advising Muslims to stay off airplanes, among other things. Wish I'd paid more attention. It was on CNN, who refused to air it...only gave a synopsis.

This incident should help allay the public fear of flying with Middle Eastern people aboard.

Spaz...

Fox had it...about a half hour ago. They didn't mention that it was a ME man, though. Sounds like some serious censoring happening around here. We turned off the TV, but I can well believe they were told to cut the story.

spaz,
Don't you think this is one of those times that they want to keep this as hush, hush as possible.

There would be sure caous at the airports if this gets out to much.

Here Bush is urging everyone to get back on a plane.....HA....When this does hit the news god help the airlines!

The only thing I see on Fox news is sports. Nothing on CNN still. Maybe no news is good news. (Why dont I believe that?)

Shosh, I think you're right that this will be an attempt to demoralize everyone here. How long can our federal, state, and local governments keep up the overtime - particularly fire and police. And the hospitals and labs are using up valuable resources and time treating many cases which will prove not to test positive for anthrax - but who wants to take the chance and be mistaken. Soon no one will trust the mail. At a family celebration today, my brother-in-law said a fellow computer geek friend of his said that the terrorists had the ability to bring this country to its knees and he said he had to agree. This is not a guy given to making flippant statements. He's worked in a variety of settings and is never given to overstatement. It's scary. We're all in it together.

Toke and Jess: Thank you so much. I feel so dumb; but I believe it is the accumulations of one thing on top of another. And, to top it all, I have been in terrivble pain since last week: I believe something has gone wrong with one of my back fusions; could not even drive to Kaiser until two days ago! So, I am going to take another Vicodin, so I can sit up a little longer at the computer.
I think the pain is making me more emotional...Who would have guessed that shosh would turn into a whimp in her advanced years

But never mind me! The poor people on the plane!!!!!the poor people of America!

No news is good news? ROFL.

This is a major story. If as reported above, it should be all over every channel at the moment.

Spaz...You are right! What in the world! I wonder if the media has been asked to down-play this, so as to minimize the panic...?

At least, when my family and I fled and hid from the Gestapo, we knew what we were running from...
This is so totally different!

THe terrorist don't have the abilty to do anything inless in your mind you allow them too..

They also can't demoralize inless they are allowed to, How is it that 19 Terrorist cowards could highjack 4 planes kill nearly 6000 and cause just a little fear, yet one actual death from a mold spore and suddenly all say the country is doomed What is it your saying that one lost life was more valuable then all the others ?!?!?!?!

An FBI spokesman is on my local news right now (KGO, Shosh) and he is saying that the "substance" appears to be nothing more than confetti that spilled out of a greeeting card. He is saying this does not appear to be terrorist-related at all. Meanwhile, the poor people were trapped on the plane for quite some time, and even the FBI guy acknowledged that they were livid...

edited to add: Well, KGO has bumped back to a college football game, but this *will* be on our local news throughout the evening, I'd imagine.

I am tuned to Channel 11, as I do not have cable TV. Supposedly, Al Kaida issued a statement earlier today warning to stay away from [/b]planes[/b] today as more attacks are coming.
All 80 people are still in the plane....
Apparently, a passenger reported to (?)...that a man had just dumped the powed into the air vents.

The Airport is saying they do not believe it is terrorist-related....Yeah! Sure!....

Now, they are saying they are confident that only CONFETI fell out of the envelope?????

I read a article several days back about a middle eastern high school student in NY who days before Sept. 11 had a dispute whith some American students and TOLD them the towers would be hit. It was being looked into and I have not heard anything since.

I have the article but the link locks up my computer now so I don't think AW will allow me to post it without the link.

Was this rumor? Has it been in the news?

The article says that his father became infuriated and left the country but the student is back in school. It also mentioned that middle easterners did not go to work at the WTC on Sept. 11. This makes me wonder, how wide spread is the knowledge of attacks prior to their occurance among that community?
