Well, the way I figure it, Halloween night will be our last night together. I assume we'll be allowed to post until midnight?

I think we should begin a five day party starting tonight, and have ourselves a rip roaring good time. Maybe Barry (the party man) Barris should bring the pizza. I'll bring the Peeps. We should bring along some good memories, and reminisce about how much fun we've had here. Whose up for a marathon party?

Can we just drop the serious stuff and fights for five days and go out with a bang? Speaking of "bang", Hi James!

A party? What's to celebrate, Muriel? That a site we've contributed to for years has decided to throw us out if we don't cough up a credit card number? That many of us are about to lose something we really enjoy? I don't do much socializing outside of here, pathetic as that sounds. I work about 14 hours a day, 7 days a week and have no time for anything else. This place has allowed me to have debates and discussions with a wide range of people I would otherwise have never met, people I feel I've come to know and enjoy over the years, and whom I look forward to "seeing" every day. I'm about to lose that, through no fault of my own, and for no good reason other than this site trying to take advantage of the people who kept its boards thriving all this time.

So you go ahead and "party" if you feel that's what you really want to do. But I don't feel like there's anything to celebrate.

As I said, Spaz, "We should bring along some good memories, and reminisce about how much fun we've had here."

Since we're going down anyway, why be such a grump and a grouch? Why can't we celebrate what we had?

Well, I am staying because AW already gets money from me for great pics!

Can I come to your party even though I am most always a lurker?

I'll bring the organic cheese if you say yes!!!!!!!!

Maybe some eyeball grapes, spaghetti worms, catsupy blood, okra slime. Cause its Halloween!

Spaz,

Why not just give them the CC information?
I know that some people are very reluctant to give out credit card information, but it doesn't personally concern me that much. I don't like this, at least in theory, more than anyone else, but I don't think that it has to result in any devestation to the forum. I anticipate that a good number of posters will remain.

Muriel, it looks like you'll have an uphill battle.

There is an added complication. Have a look at this calendar. (Check out what is in store for Oct. 31.)

Antiquary's right Spaz. If AW has protected your ID this well for this long, how can you think that they would not continue. If you've used a credit card at all, online or off, and you still have the relevant account you are listed in dozens if not thousands of databases selling information about your spending habits by use of any card or account that you have. There is no privacy as far as spending goes.

Spaz, I've enjoyed your posts. I'll probably stay. I agree with krs - the CC info is probably already out there.I may wait a few days to see how an un-moderated forum plays out before I use my CC. I don't have much interest in participating in a forum that ends up like the other spin-offs. But AW is the closest thing online that I've found to my former artsy-fartsy beer parties - always a good discussion.

That's not what concerns me, it's this (from the terms you agree to when you hand over you CC number):

AuctionWatch may change the Fees Policy effective seven days after those changes have been posted on our website and may add new fees effective immediately upon posting the new fees.

It's obvious AW needs money (nothing wrong with that, so do I). I'm afraid that with little or no notice, anyone posting here after the first is going tp have their CC charged. To many Forums out there for me to pay to use one.

If a charge appears on you card call the card. They won't pay if you're acting in good faith.

Yes, I don't see that language as a great problem. Besides, I don't believe AW would ever do that without sufficient notification. It would immediately kill the forums and they wouldn't make enough money from it to deal with the legal entanglements.

Can't say I will be in a partying mood Wednesday night.

Those of us who are not on multiple boards may truly be saying goodby to each other. Try as I might, I can't find a thing about that to celebrate.

For many of you, it's just another board with a lot of the same people you talk to every day on other boards.

On Thursday, when you come on line and read something that peaks your interest, you will log in and reply as always.

Even if I give in to the CC requirement, we will have lost some of the voices that made this board what it is, IMHO...the best.

So, have your party. But, no stifling the partypooper if she shows up. She'll initially only be after some of Hopeless' Heinekens, but you never know what will happen when she starts drowning her sorrows in them.
