Auta I don't know ya but you are cracking me up.
Spaz - Ok point taken, but I usually think you all KNOW me well enough by now that it is a given I am not generalzing. I will be much pickier with my words. I don't want it to be taken the wrong way! (And don't you pretend for a minute that this train sh*t isn't true, young man.)

Seriously NYCrocker,
I am bothered by inconsiderate people (men women children)
I am bothered that there still is a term feminist. I wish the term to be something like humanist.
See we have feminist and NAACP and gay rights all these different groups fighting tooth and nail for their members.
I mean you'd have to add a whole hell of a lot more groups to cover some very damaged, overlooked and stepped upon members of society.
Fat people
Ugly people
Childless workers (vs workers with children)
I'm not going to continue the list. I'm going to close by saying that I wish all of the seperate groups would get together and fight for humanity, for tolerance.
They won't tho, they all have their agendas and they all have their predjudices too..

I just happen to be sensitive to generalizing because I'm a terrible generalizer in real life, LOL.

Auta I agree with most of what you said, and yes there is an endless list. I too am absolutely A HUMANIST.
I personally am attached to the "feminist" movement because we DO still live in a very sexist world, and the problem still needs to be addressed badly. That does not mean that other problems DON'T need to be addressed. I do believe we ALL have our own agendas, and why wouldn't we, don't we each have some issue that has hurt us or touched us personally which will be closest to our hearts? And being that there are only so many hours in a day, or dollars in your wallet, we have to pick where most of our time and energy will go sometimes. I try to fight everyone's battles when I can, but when it is time to (for instance) give money to organizations, I am unfortunately limited in my finances, so I have to choose a priority. I am always going to pick the Women's Rights organizations, Gay rights organizations, and Animal Rescue organizations. Those are my personal priorities and I have that right. Maybe someone else will pick The American Cancer Society if someone close to them has been affected by cancer, etc etc. But when we can't all give ALL our time, ALL our energy and ALL our money to ALL the organizations, I believe we have the responsibilty to at least SPEAK OUT for other people's rights. You hear someone say something sexist? Racist? Etc...? CALL them on it. That's how I see it. Changing the world a little at a time.
"If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem".... I don't know who said that but I like it.

(I do realize men are conditioned to put themselves first and women are conditioned to put other people's needs first) (which sucks)
Now if this is true, why do I hold the door open and let a lady walk through ahead of me? Or give up my seat if an elderly person doesn't have one? It's called giving a damn about the other person and this trait is not exclusive to women, last time I checked.
There's far too much generalizing being done here.

outoftheblue - So let me make sure I understand, are you saying there ISN'T a problem with sexism??
Also, I know you were taught it is polite to open doors for women, etc. You probably do it out of respect if that is what you were taught. Personally I think all those old traditional rituals have to go. Women are not so weak that they can't open a damn door themselves.Like I said, I don't believe sexism only affects women. My straight girlfriends tell me men still pay for the dates. Do YOU think this is fair? I don't.
Hep - You don't need to be sorry for anything in my life, I love my life, I have an awesome life. You COULD be sorry for things YOU have said that have hurt people, and you COULD open your eyes and see the CONTENT in my posts. But, I don't expect any of that out of you. I expect nothing from you. So, not to worry.

Sara!! ROF!! Good one.
Brein, sorry dude, but I personally found it quite depressing to be raised in a culture where EVERYTHING I wanted to do was reserved for MEN. Sigh. How would you like to be told not to climb a tree, not to play lead guitar, not to act too strong, not not not not not NOT do anything you want to do.
AND - you must cook, you must sew, you must marry a man, you must be taken care of, you must must must must do all these things you DON'T want to do.
Obviously I ended up not listening.

Then you might ask yourself whom you're really doing the favor for -- the woman (and if so, why? is she disabled? weak?) or yourself (so you can feel gallant and chivalrous)?

I hear ya Rocker,
I see things everywhere everyday. So many different ugly things happening. So many peoples rights being trampled on.
I do the only thing I'm able to do. I give when I can. I step in when I can. I am always ready willing and able to step in and verbally kick someones ass for doing something hateful to another.
I have taught my kids from day one that HATE is disgusting. I ahve taught them from day one that ridiculing, shunning, or otherwise making them feel an outsider because of a different skin color or lifestyle or anything is absolutely NOT allowed.
I also have made this huge grand affair since they were babies about how we don't litter or steal.
Anyway, I guess I'm rambling. I have no answers. I just think more people should work on a humanist movement at home and maybe someday we won't all have to find separate groups to back to protect human rights.
