I believe he is talking about his uniform.

Yesterday I went in FedEx and the guy at the counter was dressed in Black pants with cargo pockets and a black knit shirt. The really obvious thing about him was he was wearing a big Glock pistol clipped over his waist band and a couple extra clips but none of the cuffs or other stuff cops usually carry, and no big belt. So after the clerk went away I nodded at the Glock and asked him "Are you a cop or do you just live in a really really bad neighborhood?" He laughed and pulled a laminated ID up from under his shirt with a badge clipped over the top edge.
"I'm a crime scene investigator." He said.
I asked "Are you guys going nuts with everybody calling that sees where the boss sat his donut down and smeared confectioner's sugar?"

He said "We have had over 1,000 calls like that in the county (Oakland ) since the WTC."

1,000 in one county. How many man-hours? Crazy.

Each of us "nibbling away at little fringes of it" IS how we change the world. Thanks for doing your part in it.
Giving ya a great big "guy" bear hug!

Rocker, if you were insulted by that then you are insulted too easily.

To put it this way. I hate labels and stereotypes! You are the one making this a man -vs- women thing not me.

I like and respect, even look up to many women and have never had a problem with equality.

I have little respect for many feminists because they scream about discrimination against various groups and, at the same time, preach hatred towards men.

It is obvious what the intent of this thread was: "I know this is going to sound sexist, but,. Isn't that what you are against [sexism]? There's a word for that.....

Soooo.. on the lighter side... try being a non-feminist carpenter.

I did interior trim for a little over 5 years and everyone assumed because I was in a "man's" job, I was a feminist. NOT! I was there because I enjoyed the work and was good at it.
I am very thankful that I had parents that never told me I couldn't do anything, they let me play with trucks, they let me climb trees and they encouraged me in what I tried to do. I was at the top of my classes in science & math because I liked them, no matter who told me I wouldn't be good at them. I am thankful for all that because now I don't have to be angry and bitter and swing totally the other way.

As many others have said, there is no need for anything more than respecting your fellow human and treating them nicely. I personally like it when someone holds a door for me or helps me out with something. Not because I can't open the damn door myself, but I am human and like to feel special. I feel as special when my daughter opens the car door as when my husband does.

Well, I have rambled on most long enough. Keep up those posts, I am enjoying this thread.

Wrong. Feminism is more about rebelling against a patriarchal society that attempts to keep women DOWN. NOT about hating men. Maybe you cannot (or WILL not) see this BECAUSE you are in the privileged group.
EVERY group that is oppressed ends up screaming about it. And with damn good reason. If everyone just "put up and shut up", the blacks would still be in the back of the bus, and women would not be voting. Not that any of this matters to you apparantly.

Of course from any group that wants to get rid of a patriarchal society there will be a few who think that means we need a matriarchal society. But Hey - I'd rather talk about Rocker's tatoos anyway.

GASP!
Gravid you peeked!! HOW did you know about my tattoo?!?!?!?
LOL Gravid, I can't beleive you just said that, if you only knew how funny that is. JUST this week I have been looking for a new tattoo artist to fix the MESS of a tattoo I got when I was 16 and VERY drunk. I spent this past week designing a new gorgeous tattoo.

Ohhh we are not gonna go there now, are we? This could be a whole new thread.

Maybe you cannot (or WILL not) see this BECAUSE you are in the privileged group.

There you go putting everyone into neat little groups. Women, Men, Black, White, Gay, Strait, etc... ~ News Flash ~ Life doesn't work that way!

I've been discriminated against my entire life. Just because it's not due to my skin color or gender doesn't mean it's any less real. Never the less I refuse to become jaded and bitter like some of the activists out there.

My oldest daughter has a tattoo on the back of one shoulder, and for one crazy moment I thought about getting a rose on the back of mine.

Then I came to my senses.

Whew!! That was a close call.

About tatooed people....
My wife tells me that when I am angry my face has a look that is honestly freightening. I resisted believing that but we were out one day and had some difficulties and I was really really burned up and we decided to stop and get a burger.
I was standing in line and these two fellows got behind us and the next thing you know they are horsing around and one bumped me.
I turned to look at this guy with all this on my mind and "that face" on as my wife would say, and he just froze at eye contact and slowly backed away and walked out the door without a word. His buddy walked away as if he didn't know him and slipped out the other door.
Why was it embarrassing that they acted like that?
Well the guy who bumped me was maybe 35 with
black jeans and a leather vest on and his arms and hands and neck were all covered with prison tatooes of white supremist symbols and bloody knives and other scary things. He had deep ice pick acne and long black hair in a poney tail with the front shaved away and oriental lettering tatooed on his scalp. He just looked like someone who had been through hell. I mean this guy would have to be prettied up to win a Charles Manson look alike contest and it was obvious I scared the beejeebers out of him. My wife had tried to tell me that but it was totally embarrassing to see someone like that react to it. I am still trying to figure out how NOT to do that face.

Gravid: I can sympathize. I've had friends tell me that I can look as mean as hell when I'm not actually smiling. Left a friend in the car late one evening while I popped into a 7-11--those places all have glass fronts so you can see the whole store from outside--and when I came out she laughed and said that it had been funny seeing both men & women in the store give me clear berth. I hadn't been paying much attention to the people around me & hadn't noticed.

I *have* noticed that because of my extensive tattoos I have far less hassles with gang members--they want to talk about the art & what artist I use and are friendly with me & never harass me as they can other people.

bunnicula - That is neat about having a good relationship with gang members. I befriended a biker once who was alone and in trouble and to my astonisment found that word spread among that community very quickly that I was "OK" and it resulted in a lot of business and friendliness. I would be sitting in bar with friends and bikers would come in the next thing you know some biker I did not know would be coming to our table with a long neck for each of us. Got me some real funny looks from my friends like OK do you want to share that story? But sometimes it is more fun to be a mystery man.

I don't think I am a feminist...just a #*!@.

But I do believe in equal rights for all of us. I want ERA ratified and I belong to Fatherhood Initiative.

I was born, raised and still live close to Seneca Falls, NY.

I am equal and it really pisses me off when someone does not catch that right away. I am equal, I am not waiting for anyone else to verify it...so damn it...treat me that way.

I am equal, I am not waiting for anyone else to verify it...so damn it...treat me that way.

THAT is EXACTLY what "feminism" means, so I am TRULY baffled over WHY people are rejecting the WORD "Feminist" while they believe in the ACTIONS. The word is rejected by those who are practicing it!
Something has gone really askew. Talk about backlash ... somewhere in our culture, our media, there has been much success in destroying the very meaning of the word. Once again, dividing and conquering. Destroy the word, destroy the group dynamic. I am really really sad to see this.
Where's Femme. I need her shoulder to lean on.

Ya know, I can't believe I'm still an activist. I fight for the rights of the same people who are giving me sh*t about it. Everyone will benefit from the work, but not everyone is willing to do the work.
But ya know what, I'm still gonna do it.
Cos it's what I believe in.
