I am going thru a PayPal nightmare- and Damon has been the ONLY honest individual I have dealt with. Lighten up on him-huh? I know I wont get my money back-- and I dont really like PayPal right now- but he did answer my questions withing hours (although he didnt give me all the info I argued about) I am just glad some one from PayPal answers something.

Let me make things clear, why I'm so upset with PP and Damon. Damon ask me to contact him and I did e-mail
directly to him and not
once. He could simply answer my e-mail even
he wasn't able to do anything with my account. But he chose not to. My question is:
Why Damon never reply to people, why directly
send e-mails to [email protected] after accounts become restricted. Why all those victims should search
Internet for someone like PayPal Damon? Maybe some my comments do sound insulting for somebody, so I do
apologize. Some people think, my comment was
right to the point. Taking people money without any explanation, court order, I think its more then insult. We are

I recently tried to send a payment to a Paypal Seller who I deal with regularly. The site did not give me an option of where to take the money from, so I assumed it was taking it from my credit card. Much to my dismay, it tried to take the entire amount from my savings account, I immediatly called Paypal Customer Service (Hard Enough To Find) and informed them that Paypal was not authorized to deduct any funds from my savings and that they need to fix that. They told me it was "impossible" to do that. So I ended up getting slammed by overdraft charges until they defaulted back to my credit card. Then I called to try and get reimbursed for the overdraft charges and the customer service rep told me he couldn't do that, but financial services "might be able to, I don't know" So I asked to be forwarded, he couldn't do that and told me that financial services doesn't even have a phone number only an email address << [email protected] >> So at this point I am contacting the better business bureau and I think you should too.

How about John Kotanek - Very important person in PayPutz Industry.
I believe he is a head of all investigations. They call him "Big John".
He is the biggest BS artist in PayPal.com. If you wish to talk to him,
this is his phone number # 650 251 1141. Watch out!!! This guy lows
detective movies, cannot go to sleep without see one. If he will suspect,
that you are Russian or Chinese spy, than say Good Bay to your money.
The money will be confiscated without court, judge and any respect to
the low and Constitution and no explanations any kind will be allowed.
So I wish you luck! Unfortunately no more 800 number for
a victims. PayPal cannot afford.

YES, DEFINITELY!! I will gladly send anyone that asks the email threads on this between them and myself. They stole funds from our account TWICE!! They are NOT fraud protected, that is BS!! The latest problem, was from FIVE MONTHS ago!! They wait till now, to tell us that this x-action was fraudulent on the part of our customer, then STEAL funds from our account to cover their as*es!! CROOKS. We have filed fraud charges against them, and one FBI theft report SO FAR, and I will file another today. I encourage ALL OF YOU HERE to go to http://www.ifccfbi.gov/default.asp which is the FBI's internet fraud website and file a report!! I registered with Pay pal Because I was looking at ebay and thought that it would save me some time to register early ( For when I needed to pay for something) . Well I kept looking on ebay and eventually won an auction I was bidding on, It happened to have a pay pal link. I used that link and Pay Pal reported my password was wrong, <- I know it wasent. I ended up after repeatedly trying to log in, Re Registering. I then had to have a password sent to me VIA snail mail. OMG! Because they said my password was wrong again! < __ Agin I knew it wasent, Well The password they sent me was good, I paid for the merchandise there was a Problem with the sellers account however, I sent the seller the notice and the link posted in the Notice that thier was a problem with his account. he fixed the problem and recieved the money. So I am All Good on This deal. I havent recieved the merchandise yet But I feel that I will soon as I am In Contact with the seller, he seems to be a good guy.
But after Reading these stories, I am going To My Credit card ( Wich I can access online Thank God) and I am sending them a note stateing that I will no longer be useing PAY PAL And that I wish them to restrict them from accessing my card, Even if they provide my number and all that.
Sending Money Orders Does not sound so bad anymore Ya Know it. Good Luck People.

I accidently lost my first post, so I'm trying to post what I said from memory. I think I created a new topic somewhere instead.
I had a bunch of weird charges to my credit card that only paypal and yahoo had. I've disputed them with my credit card and waiting to hear if they'll be taken off.
I paid for an auction around Christmas using Paydirect, and it was charged to my credit card, but never showed up on the seller's end. He still hasn't been able to claim the money. I guess Yahoo ended up with it.
Yahoo/paydirect isn't really much better and I am soon quitting dealing with yahoo auctions altogether. They kicked my first yahoo name off because I rated a seller bad and said she was a thief. This person cashed my check and lied saying she sent me the item, but then relisted the item and sold it to someone else. Then yahoo deleted where I rated her bad when they kicked me off. It wasn't just any name either, I had started my own organization to assist battered women in getting new lives and that name was also the name of my organization and housed my geocities website that I spent years working on. The website had the hotline # to every battered women's shelter in the United States, along with other information. That name was nearly 4 years of my life. So, I was not only out of the auction money, but something that couldn't be replaced. I filed mail fraud charges against her and the USPS never got back with me. It's been since August when this happened.
I spoke with someone who had a bad deal with paypal. Paypal took several hundred dollars out of his bank account and he lost all of his money. He never could get it back after all these months. So far paypal has just been a quiet nuisance to me because the site is almost always down when I try to use it.

To Who will listen:
I have found the Paypal guarantee to be a "CATCH 22". I made a purchase for $43.95, for a leather coat, on Ebay. I used Paypal to make payment. The transaction went smoothly and the "verified" seller was paid. I knew I had to wait 2-3 weeks for shipment and did not worry due to Paypal's guarantee. I had constant contact with the seller through e-mail which sounded very professional and also had good reviews through Ebay.
When I realized I was not going to get the jacket, and no refund was forthcoming from the seller, I contacted Paypal to start a fraud report and claim to refund my payment. I received a form response giving me instructions and stating that since I purchased the coat through Ebay, I would have to go through Ebay's fraud and insurance for my claim first before they would consider it.
This I did, and also filed a fraud report with Paypal because the seller was still using their service to receive payments from
Ebay auction sales. I received notice from Ebay that since I used an online payment service, I would have to go through Paypal first to try to get a refund before Lloyd's of London would consider the claim. The most I would receive from Lloyd's would be $4.95 due to a $25.00 co-pay. and the fact that shipping charges are not covered. After 15 emails to Paypal and only form email responses, I feel assured that they expect the frustration to set in and for me to just forget about the claim. My last communication from Ebay stated that they recommended I find another payment service and would not recommend Paypal. the stated that it wouold be almost impossible to get a refund from Paypal from the amount of complaints they receive about them. Ebay finally suspended the sellers priveledges.
I am resolved to tell my story and discredit Paypal in any forum that will listen. I can only surmise that vast amount of money that Paypal has stolen or misappropriated hoping for the same result! Not only do we have to worry about unscrupulous sellers on the web but now we have to worry about the services, which have been touted as the best thing since sliced bread to trust with our money.

I have called the FBI on Paypal. If you look on their website you will see a form you can fill out for auction fraud! it is wise to do so in these cases! They really do invesitgate this stuff too! You are also right in the fact they do demand that you give up your rights as they are stated in your credit card agreement! this statement is not true, per my Banks Branch Manager who told me that is why they have the protection! But I very much agree that Paypal is a screwball operation that feeds on the online business' as well as consumers!

I have nearly 30000 $ locked in Paypal. After being "restricted" 10 days ago, emailing them a zillion times , and getting the same "thanks for your patience" reply, but no reason why I was restricted, I called their call center where nobody knows anything. Now I read all that bad feedback about them and start wondering why I left that sort of money there...
What shall we do next ?

Group, I've received many personal emails on this, and thought I would post this info below. If you are a victim of these crooks too, POST IT EVERYWHERE you can!!! Forums, message boards, you name it. Do a search for 'paypal fraud' and you'll see a LOT of hits. Here are some links below that may help too.
Tell EVERYONE you can, and don't give up. I recommend all to make a SEPARATE fraud report at the FBI site AND the other fraud site for EACH time they screwed you. I also recommend to those of you that have websites, to do what I did at our website. You can see the paypal notice at the top of any of our webpages. Give them HELL and don't let them push you around. They are CROOKS.

Last week I purchased a computer through eBay and paid for it this past Sunday (2/4) using PayPal. The money was transferred out of my account on Monday. Yesterday (2/8), I tried to pay a bill using my Visa check card and was declined. I called my bank and found out there was a hold on my account and that PayPal had gotten authorization for the same amount of my original purchase again, but this time using my Visa...the first time the transaction went through as an electronic check. I'm now waiting until 6 or 7 am to see if it is dropped, or if it actually goes through. My bank says they can do nothing about it until PayPal actually puts the transaction through. I've also sent many emails to PayPal and received the usual canned answers. I don't know what's going to happen, but I do know I feel powerless and am going to my bank first thing in the morning and sign papers stating that PayPal can no longer draw funds from my checking account. Also, from what I can gather, I may have to get a new Visa card number and discontinue the old one. Glad I found this message board...I feel that my eyes have been opened. I too will post a warning about PayPal on my own web site. Thank you all so much for the wealth of information.

Udate: I talked to my bank today and they informed me that "there's no hold on your account AT THIS TIME" and "of course, I can't comment, I don't work for that corporation." No explanation as to why a hold was put on my account AFTER the check cleared. All I heard was silence when I asked why and how. Duh? I'm considering myself lucky for the moment, but I still cancelled my account with what, by accident, I started calling Payola. Thank you all again.

I would like to ask that you remove the employee contact email addresses and names from your posting if possible. The reason I am asking is that someone might contact these departments for a general customer service inquiry or specific item that they might not know how/where to direct for handling. It sounds like you used our Instant ACH feature---this initiates an ach transfer into our system and they generally take 3-5 business days to clear in. However, if a customer chooses, they can secure it against the credit card (instant ach) where we make the money available immediately and secure it against the credit card. If you send me your account email address to [email protected] I can look at the transaction.

Well, This is very familiar I had and auction running in november which ended on the ninth. I run a business and had my account with paypal restricted. no money in or out and the whole nine yards. i had a serious problem since the monies in the account where in excess of $1,000. When I called them I hit that wall of silence when i did reach someone I got the" theres nothing I can do" They wouldn't even tell me why it was restricted. they acted like it was "my" fault like I was a criminal. they made my send personal information including drivers license, credit card info, bank statement, you name it. I had buyers extremely upset because they couldn't get thier money or products several were frightened of fruad! Needless to say I had a horriendious mess and my business image was in shreds. It was awful so I did the only thing i could do I started nagging paypal calling several times daily, threatening a lawsuit, finally I reached a girl in customer service which was new or something I talked to her briefly and she told me what was on her computer screen... I was astounded!! it was all there what the problem was. She told me everything which others had been telling me they couldn't access. She was just a customer relations person! Is this some sort of closed mouth thing? After that I wrote to the head suprvisor of Customer service stating what I tell you now about how much she gave me, after that I was contacted a miracle of miracles!! I was forwarded and forwarded again which I was telling what the girl had told me and it seemed to be the charm it worked I got the account unfrozen, got the monies out and closed the damn thing. I never heard from the girl again. But I think she might have told me things she wasn't supposed to and maybe got fired.

I am totaly disgusted with Paypal. I have made a $1400 payment for an item through Paypal with my credit card. I never received the item. The person claims that Paypal never transfered the funds to their bank account. I've filed a complaint with Paypal but they take weeks to respond, if at all. I've contacted my VISA credit card company and told them I never received the item I purchased. They have given me a temporary credit. I'm afraid they are going to say I authorized Paypal to bill my credit card account and even though I never received the item from the third party, I'm responsible for the charge. What do you think?
I notice Paypal discourages payments by credit card. I wonder why?

I too ran into the same problem today. I have been useing Paypal since October and at times could never figure out why I would have checks bouncing when I knew the money was in the account. Well I quit writing checks and now use my account for online reasons only. I descovered how the checks were bouncing. I deposited X amount of dollers to cover purchases after 2 purchases my card came back denied. I called the bank and they were at a loss also. They investigated and descovered a hold on my account for Paypal payments that cleared 12 days ago. With my case also my banks hands are tied. So I contacted paypal, they said the hold would be off in 30 min that she would call right now that it must have been an oversight. Oversight my A** this has been going on and has cost me tons of money in overdrafts. I called back 6hrs later and there still is a hold on my account. Paypal fails to let people know that there accounts will be on hold even after payment has cleared and this isn't right. Also I went to close my account and they inform me any pending transactions will be cancelled. So I can't do that right now either. BUT they have lost another customer. I was a seller and a buyer.

Another thing I thought odd was the fact that when I was closing my Payola account, I was informed that I will never be allowed to reopen another account. Isn't that strange? What bank or financial institution would ever tell a customer that! Seemed like an unscrupulous "hard sell" tactic...trying to instill the fear in me that I may not EVER be allowed to use Payola again!! That just made me want to press the cancel button that much faster!
Originally I had made a $400 purchase...they took $400 out of my checking and THEN put a $400 hold on my account. I don't care what "fine print" they come up with to justify the deed. The final analysis is that it was unacceptable and I quit!

Customers that have their account in good standing are welcome to open another account (I am having this fixed through Product).
It sounds like you used the instant ach function when making a payment and that is why it appears to be double-dipping, but it is not. If this needs clarification...please let me know.

My problem with PayPal doesn't involve a large sum of money, but it has a point. I mistakenly made an Ebay auction payment to a seller that does not accept PayPal. Being they pay to any Email adress, the payment went through. She does not have an account and does not want to sign up with PayPal to collect this money. So I paid her again with an alternate method. PayPal insists that the money is in "her account" and I have to ask her to claim it and send it back to me. Where does all the money go that is Emailed to anybody in the universe who happens to have an Email address?

If the payment reads as claimed in your histroy it would mean it was sent to an active PayPal account and the recipient has to send it back. If the payment is UNCLAIMED you can reverse the transaction.

We are a charity for at-risk teens. Because of a dispute where PayPal refused to honor its own policy of refunding money if merchandise is not received, they backed around it by saying that "something" was recieved and it did not matter if it was not that which was ordered. As a result they have restricted our account. There are hundreds of dollars in it, but they refuse to relase it unless we give them more than six hundred dollars for the charge we disputed with our credit card company. the monies being held have nothing to do with the dispute. PayPal refuses to close or block the account and people keep putting more money into it from auctions. We will be suing.

I can read the PayPal help file, too! You are the fourth person from PayPal who has quoted this information from your help file and I'm getting a little tired of it all. Apparently none of you can read the simple English in my Emails. Let me say it again--No matter what you say, THE SELLER DOES NOT HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH YOU! She has attempted to pick up this money and could not do it. Goodbye, PayPal!

Below is an e-mail I received from Paypal a couple of nights ago. This has all transpired since I requested monies in my account to be sent to my bank, a few days ago, which has been done, but I did leave a few extra bucks in my paypal account to work off of. I have gone into my present auctions and gotten their logo off as well as getting them off my web store page.
After reading many stories on this forum, just wanted to add my own, as if there is enough complaining, then maybe something will be done about Paypal!!!???
Upon reviewing your PayPal account I have noticed your Business Name is "None". Note this will result in the checks issued to you with the Business name none. Most likely you will not be able to cash this check if your last name is not none. Please log in to your PayPal account to have this changed. Your bank will not accept this check. Also if you do not have a business, but have a business account please have the account changed to a premium account instead of a business account. A business account is for business only. A premium account is an account with all the same features but is for individuals. Also note if your account name is XYZ.com, you must have a bank account with XYZ.com in order to cash that check.
I then e-mailed customer support to find out how to go about doing this. After I did as they said, I received this message from them telling me my account is restricted:
Your account was restricted for administrative purposes. In order
to lift this restriction, you must contact the PayPal Account Review
Department by replying this email. (which I did, but no reply, as yet)
